2016：サマースクールの振り返り

1年の中で一番長いお休み期間の夏休み期間中に、楽しい英語のイベントを開催いたしました。
春に比べ、たくさんの生徒さんが参加してくれたイベントでは、英語力の向上のみならず、
夏休みの思い出をたくさん作れたようです。
28種類のイベントの中からいくつかご紹介をさせていただきます。

工作・クッキング・化学実験・外遊びなどのイベントを毎日全て英語で行い、いつもとは違ったイベント色たっぷりのレッスンや普段の生活とは全く違った英語漬けの環境に、ご参加頂いた生徒さん達は大盛り上がりでした。

マイク先生からのメッセージ

This summer 28 different events were held at Kids passport.
The events covered a variety of different topics including cooking, arts & crafts, games, and science.
Our main goal for the summer was to provide students the opportunity to speak through play.
Through play children can gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments.

2016年の夏、キッズパスポートではクッキング、工作、ゲームやサイエンスなどのトピックに基づいた28種のさまざまなイベントが開催されました。サマースクールの主な目的としては、遊びを通して英語で話す機会を提供するという事でした。この「遊びながら学ぶ」という体験により、新しい体験や環境に取り組むために必要な「自信」を養う事ができました。

Keeping this in mind, each event was meticulously designed to include key ways that young children learn.
Within an entirely English environment students were faced with physical and mental challenges, shown how to do new things, given new experiences, and expected to communicate and work as a team.

これを念頭に置き、子ども達の学習に適した方法などを慎重に組み込んだサマースクールの各イベントが完成しました。子ども達は心身ともに困難な英語オンリーの環境の中で、新しい事への挑戦、チームワークやコミュニケーションを求められました。

To have total English immersion that mimics a true homestay experience, the speaking in the classroom must be spontaneous and voluntary.
It was important for each event to feel not like a typical “lesson” but more of a fun activity or game that facilitated the practice and repetition of skills while having fun.

実際に海外でホームステイをしているような時間を過ごせる「英語だけに浸る環境」を実現する為には、自然な・自発的な発言が飛び交う会話スタイルを保つ事が非常に重要です。その為、各イベントは一般的な「授業」や「レッスン」のスタイルではなく、会話の練習や繰り返し言う練習を自然に促すゲームやアクティビティに楽しく参加をしながら学ぶスタイルで行われました。

Through the repetition of skills learned and the immersion into a total English atmosphere I was able to see the development of our students that came often.
The first things that became immediately clear was the improvement in speaking confidence.
Trusting the teachers and forming a strong bond paved the way for students to feel comfortable to express themselves verbally.
In my opinion this is absolutely essential in learning to communicate in a foreign language.
The more comfortable you are with someone, the more you will speak with that person.

学んだ事を繰り返し使い英語オンリーの環境で過ごすレッスンスタイルにより、サマースクールにたくさん参加をしてくれた子ども達の英語力の向上を見る事が出来ました。最初に目に付いた事は、講師との信頼関係を構築する事による安心感から、英語での発言や気持ちの表現がしやすくなり、自信に繋がるという事でした。私個人の意見としては、ここが外国語を学ぶにあたり非常に重要なポイントであり、話す相手に対する安心感によって、その相手との会話の広がりが変わります。

The summer event schedule was a rewarding time for me.
Not only was I able to grow as a teacher and spend time with amazing kids, I was also able to observe first-hand the progression of our regular students.
I’m looking forward to future events here at Kids Passport and witnessing the continued success of our students.

講師として成長出来た事だけでなく、素晴らしい子ども達と過ごせた事、キッズパスポートの既存生達の英語力の向上を目の当たりに出来た事、サマースクールは私にとってかけがえの無い時間となりました。今後のイベントや、キッズパスポートの生徒さん達のさらなる成功をとても楽しみにしています。
